I have the honour to transmit at the request of the Government Analyst, Mr. J. Browne, the accompanying Memorial on the subject of his salary and praying for promotion in the Colony.

Mr. Browne was appointed Assistant Analyst and Apothecary in May, 1893, and was promoted to his present appointment in 1898. His salary is now $3,000 per annum with Exchange Compensation, free quarters and an allowance for fuel and light of $144 per annum. He enjoys the privilege of drawing salary while on leave at the rate of 4 shillings to the dollar and will be entitled to pension at the rate of 3 shillings 8 pence to the dollar.
